Padel is the fastest growing racket sport in the world, and until now the North East has had almost nowhere proper to play it. That changes in Blyth this August, when Padelsphere opens as Northumberland's first dedicated indoor padel venue.

So what is padel?
Padel is best described as a mix of tennis and squash. It is played in doubles on an enclosed court roughly a third the size of a tennis court, with glass walls you are allowed to play off, solid stringless rackets and an underarm serve.
The reason it has taken off is simple: it is genuinely easy to start. The court is smaller, the rackets are forgiving and the walls keep the ball in play, so rallies happen almost immediately. Most people who have never held a racket are playing real points within ten minutes, which is not true of tennis or squash.
Most first-timers are rallying within ten minutes. That is why padel spreads by word of mouth.
Why the North East, and why now
Padel has exploded across Spain, Sweden and increasingly the south of England, but provision in the North East has lagged badly behind. Players here have largely had to make do with a converted court tacked onto another facility, or travel a long way for a proper game.
That is the gap Padelsphere fills. Not a court added as an afterthought, but a venue designed around padel from the ground up, indoors, so the weather never cancels your game.

There is free on-site parking with around 30 spaces, plus free street parking right outside, so no circling the block before your session.
What we are building
Three full panoramic courts
Two doubles courts and one singles court, all full-size with panoramic glass. Indoor, heated and lit properly, so a January evening plays exactly like a July one.
AI match recording, included
Both doubles courts have AI cameras that film every match automatically. No rig to set up and no one filming from the side. You get instant highlights of your best points, shot counts, top speeds and progress tracking over time, free with every match.
A licensed bar and cafe with live sport
Padel is a social sport, and the room around the courts matters as much as the courts. Ours has proper coffee through the day, a licensed bar at night, high-protein food, and live Sky Sports and TNT Sports on the screens. It is open to everyone, whether you are playing or just watching.
Saunas and recovery
Two full-spectrum infrared saunas with chromotherapy lighting, bookable in 30-minute slots and heated ready for when you arrive. Included with membership, from two sessions a month up to unlimited on Gold.
What it costs to play
You book the court and split it between players. Off-peak doubles works out from £7 per person for an hour, with peak and 90-minute options available. Rackets and balls can be hired at reception, so you genuinely can just turn up and play.

- Wear trainers and normal sportswear, nothing special needed
- You do not need your own racket, hire is available and free for members
- Padel is usually four players, but you can play singles with two
